It is always advisable to wear glasses and/or protective eyewear when sewing, especially when using applique, free-motion, and embellishment techniques.

Notes: All fabrics should be 100% Cotton and prewashed. Backing may also be a coordinate to your border print. Applique fabrics should be solids, balis, hand dyes, marbles, etc…these all work well. Don’t be afraid to experiment! Fusible webbing should be a lightweight stitchable. Stabilizer should be the stitch and tear type. Decorative threads to use are rayon and metallic. Sliver metallic does not work well in this process. Polyester decorative threads also work well but care should be taken when ironing. You will mostly use threads that match your flowers and leaves to machine applique them down, and contrasting threads for the ‘thread painting’.
